We've made getting started even easier!
OneGreatFamily is reaching out to those who are new to genealogy or OneGreatFamily to make getting started easier than ever. OneGreatFamily recently released a Family Tree Creation Wizard that helps people enter the first three generations of their family tree before registering as a member of OneGreatFamily.
This new form also allows those who have GEDCOM files to submit their family trees at the time of registration. Their family trees are then waiting for them when the registration process is completed.
The new Family Tree Creation Wizard will help get more people started using OneGreatFamily and increase the number of records available for merging and matching.

Can I use OneGreatFamily with Linux?
by Ryan Long - Technical Support
OneGreatFamily members using Linux/Unix operating systems can run Genealogy BrowserTM using Windows API programs, such as CrossOver Office www.codeweavers.com or its freeware version, Wine www.winehq.com.
OneGreatFamily member Avery J. Parker recently confirmed that Genealogy Browser runs on computers with the Linux operating system using Mandrake Linux 9.1 with CrossOver Office and Internet Explorer 6.
The OneGreatFamily Genealogy Browser is an application that is piloted by an Active X control; therefore, in order to run it, you must have Internet Explorer installed. Once you have CrossOver Office running, you should be able to download and install Internet Explorer. Using Internet Explorer, you can launch a famous ancestor or your group from OneGreatFamily.com. You will then be prompted to download and install Genealogy Browser, which will load when it finishes downloading.
All packages and patches needed to run CrossOver Office may not come with your Linux or Unix installation CDs. You may be able to find what you are looking for at SpeakEasy.net.
This configuration may not work with all Linux and CrossOver Office variations. We are interested to hear about your OneGreatFamily Linux/Unix experiences. If you are able to run Genealogy Browser with Linux or Unix, please write to us at TechSupport@OneGreatFamily.com.
The following are some additional useful links for this project:
Download CrossOver Office Trial Version
Download Wine from CodeWeavers
Download Wine from SourceForge.net
Download Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1

OneGreatFamily Brings Family Together
Some people have had some bittersweet experiences through genealogy, but the final result is typically positive. The following story demonstrates how using OneGreatFamily can bring families together and solve real family issues:
I had been looking for my grandmother, Ella Mae McLeran, for four years since the sudden death of my father in 1998. I knew that she was in a nursing home somewhere in Georgia, but I could not find her. I finally found her last October when I saw her death notice in the Social Security Death Index.
Through some more tracking on the Internet, I located an attorney in Georgia who had her cremains in a cardboard box on a shelf in his office! When I tried to claim her body, he told me that I did not have enough evidence to prove that I was her granddaughter - and I had birth certificates, death certificates, etc., all the way back to my grandfather, her husband. When I ordered her death certificate, I realized why he told me that. All of her pertinent family information was marked "unknown"!
My parents were divorced for years and as my dad was from Florida, I knew that there had to be some relations there who could help me. I received an email message advertising OneGreatFamily and took a 7-day trial subscription. On my first search, I located our family tree, and the administrator was a cousin! Through contact with her, I finally was able to claim my grandmother's ashes and bury her in the family plot in Florida.
Thanks to OneGreatFamily this story had a happy ending!
Regards,
April Tanner
