How does OneGreatFamily save me time when doing my genealogy research?

With all of our busy schedules we don't have much time in the day
to do what we would really like to do, such as our hobbies or spending
time with those we love. Genealogy in particular is something we
postpone because of the time it takes to uncover just one family
name or new piece of information. Most of us think the task at hand
is too great, so we give up even before we start. OneGreatFamily
was created for the very purpose of saving people time and money

steps that you need to take. The first is to submit or create what

Include as many relationships as you can, including aunts and uncles.

unique matching service. With more than 70 million names already
submitted and between one and three million new names being submitted
each month, you are sure to find your ancestors at OneGreatFamily
. . . in the near future if not today. Many of the names submitted
to OneGreatFamily come with supporting data, such as information
on life events (birth, marriage and death), sources, notes, photos,
and biographies.
Once your family tree is submitted, an automatic review process
looks at each individual in your family tree and begins searching
for individuals that are identical within OneGreatFamily. Each match
makes new information available to you . . . on a specific ancestor
or even an entire branch of your family tree! A match with someone
else's data also provides a point for further collaboration within
OneGreatFamily.
OneGreatFamily also efficiently reduces duplicate family trees
and relationships by creating ONE FAMILY TREE. You don't need to
spend hours wading through hundreds of thousands of family tree
fragments or weighing evidence to determine which entries are of
most value to you. OneGreatFamily lets you see all information available
for any given person at one time (including conflicting information,
alternate spellings, notes, and other important clues).
Matching and merging can also be completed for individuals that
are close matches. If the individuals are close matches, a hint
(lightbulb) appears in the Starfield View (pedigree). You then take
the second step of determining if they are the same person and merge
the records together. When collaborating, it is important to verify
the information that has been submitted by others. This process
of matching and merging allows distant relatives to help each other
grow their family trees and also save the time that was previously
allotted to research, travel, and sifting through billions of names
in databases.

What are some techniques I can use to avoid research that is time consuming and monotonous?

Researching ancestral information can often be time consuming and monotonous. Have you ever spent hours tracking a lead in your family tree, only to discover that it had already been recorded? At OneGreatFamily, we have worked hard to develop multiple techniques to avoid situations like that. You can save time and effort in working on your genealogy with OneGreatFamily!
Save time by working together! If you are new to OneGreatFamily, chances are that a distant relative of yours has already begun work on your branch of the human family tree. While they will not initially benefit from you, they will as you both build off each other's successes.
Save time by sleeping! That's right! Whether you are awake or asleep, the OneGreatFamily match and merge system is working to verify links that will enlarge your family tree. After matching your records with records from other groups, the system will determine if any records should be merged. If two records contain very similar information, then they are automatically merged. If they contain some of the same information, but not enough to be merged, then they are hinted. This means that light bulbs appear next to each record, indicating potential matches.
Save time by organizing your data! OneGreatFamily has designed a group and anchor system to help you better organize and understand your data. A group is a storage facility for your data, which is often maintained by multiple users who are working together on closely related data. An anchor is a bookmark, which allows you to quickly reference records anywhere in OneGreatFamily. When entering information, be sure to include citations for all source information. This is helpful to you and those whom you are working with.
Save time while searching! Don't waste time searching billions of
records for a single individual--search OneGreatFamily's database
to find your entire family tree! Using the correct searching techniques
can make finding your ancestors extremely quick and easy. When searching
through possible matching records, make sure you check notes, citations,
and other information attached to the records; these provide additional
information for and about your ancestors. Also, remember to keep in
mind name variations, dates, and other identifying information when
attempting to narrow search results.
Save time while sharing data! Share your data quickly with friends
across the country and around the globe. All OneGreatFamily members
