February was an amazing month for OneGreatFamily. Our monthly statistics for February show amazing growth in all areas of our service. Our users are really taking advantage of our service by contributing information and using the many resources and tools we offer to then expand on their family trees.
OneGreatFamily has matured over the course of five years to become an outstanding architecture for genealogical data and community research. The system and architecture, however, would be far less valuable today had it not been for your support and participation. By entering and working on your genealogy, you provide the fuel that keeps the OneGreatFamily engine running. Our hundreds of thousands of guests and subscribers have made OneGreatFamily the active, growing, and dynamic service it is today.

In just the first two months of 2004, 3,961,400 new individuals and 1,545,450 new families have been submitted to OneGreatFamily. This means there are now nearly four million more chances of finding an ancestor or relative in OneGreatFamily. Within the month of February 1,591,960 entries were merged in OneGreatFamily, reducing duplication and improving your ability to identify ancestors.

OneGreatFamily Brings Family Together
Some people have had some bittersweet experiences through genealogy, but the final result is typically positive. The following story demonstrates how using OneGreatFamily can bring families together and solve real family issues:
I had been looking for my grandmother, Ella Mae McLeran, for four years since the sudden death of my father in 1998. I knew that she was in a nursing home somewhere in Georgia, but I could not find her. I finally found her last October when I saw her death notice in the Social Security Death Index.
Through some more tracking on the Internet, I located an attorney in Georgia who had her cremains in a cardboard box on a shelf in his office! When I tried to claim her body, he told me that I did not have enough evidence to prove that I was her granddaughter - and I had birth certificates, death certificates, etc., all the way back to my grandfather, her husband. When I ordered her death certificate, I realized why he told me that. All of her pertinent family information was marked "unknown"!
My parents were divorced for years and as my dad was from Florida, I knew that there had to be some relations there who could help me. I received an email message advertising OneGreatFamily and took a 7-day trial subscription. On my first search, I located our family tree, and the administrator was a cousin! Through contact with her, I finally was able to claim my grandmother's ashes and bury her in the family plot in Florida.
Thanks to OneGreatFamily this story had a happy ending!
